#9: Human Connections and Infinities
Catching up with high-school friends, reflecting and reminiscing
Hello dearest,
This week has been an ocean of nostalgia and reliving.
Remembering and Reliving
I want to start off this week’s newsletter with a little prose that I recently wrote:
This entire concept that our whole lifetimes are just specks of dust in this fabric of time somehow has been lingering within my mind. Out of the billion trillion permutations and combinations of when we could have been born in this fabric of time that is infinite, we were born in the same little smear of time. Isn’t that in itself a miracle, that maybe for however long or short this is meant to last, we were meant to get to know each other. That in someway the universe conspired for this connection to happen.
I spent the weekend meeting some of my high-school friends, some of whom I hadn’t seen or been in touch with for years. It’s been 5 years since I graduated from high school. Reconnecting with them this weekend was an absolute joy-bringer and it got me thinking about the nature of friendships and connections. What are the chances of two people meeting, forming a connection, creating memories, out-growing each other, reconnecting and reminiscing?
I think all friendships/ relationships/ connections of whatever lengths are miracles. I don’t believe in the idea of a single best friend (I definitely did when I was younger haha). What I do believe in now though, is that we need different groups of people to surround ourselves with for different times, activities and reasons. Some are for bringing out the inner child in us and some for making us mature, some are for playing sports with and some for silent company, some are for going crazy with and some for having deep conversations with. Some stick around for only a day or even just an hour, some hang around for longer and some turn into family. My point is, all of these connections are unique and worthy of celebrating.
A Quote from the Fault in our Stars
All connections of whatever length of time that they exist for, gift us with a little infinity. This quote from the movie ‘The Fault in our Stars’ gets me emotional every single time, but so thoroughly captures the essence of the beauty of relationships and the space that they occupy in our fabric of time.
As I am nearing the end of this newsletter, my heart is full of gratefulness thinking of all the beautiful connections I have made in my journey of life so far. To the boy who gifted me with the joy of experiencing a first crush, to the girl who always ensured to bring me yummy snacks, to the house-help that treated me like her own daughter, to the teacher who made fall in love with chemistry, to the friend that keeps inspiring me, to the sister that shows me unconditional love, to the brother that constantly teases me but has got my back (the list goes on…); thank you, for all the little and big infinities you have brought into my life <3
A movie recommendation
Given this week’s theme of Nostalgia, this gem of a Tamil movie that I recently saw felt so fit to share, If you find some time this week, give it a watch.
That all for this week my dearest readers. I am beyond excited to see all the people that I cross paths with in this lifetime, for all the little and big infinities that life has in store for me. I am immensely grateful.
I’ll see you soon again!
Lots of warmth and wonder,
Vaishnavi
